This 2020 creepy, frightening, and surreal horror movie is probably the best horror movie since "Hereditary!" The setting is an old farmhouse just like you have seen in many movies (especially the horror genres) but the ghosts who seem inventive in controlling or sometimes possessing the family are not like I have seen before. I don't want to give much of anything away but the premise is simple-a dying father of two siblings along with his wife begin to experience some severe inexplicably horrifying disturbances.

One of the best American western movies since the days of John Ford. William Munny (Clint Eastwood) the farmer now retired from killing and bounty hunting. He is a widower on his own farming with his two children in the opening of the movie. He gets an offer for killing two cowboys who are responsible for assaulting a prostitute. That is the setup for a great film I think Clint’s best movie of all time. The movie like “Saving Private Ryan” is more anti-violence than a just another movie that glorifies the horrors of killing and violence. Gene Hackman as the sadistic Sheriff that is fending off all the killers and bounty hunters earned him an Oscar. This is on my top ten best of the 1990’s.

Based on a true story this 1983 part psychological and part creepy ghost story does get under your skin. Thing is I believe it’s so well structured that you never really know what is causing the disturbance but there is a strange possibility she may have telekinesis. Barbara Hershey carries the film as the single working mother which seemingly out of nowhere begins to be violently assaulted by an invisible force. I don’t want to give away too much but this movie a horror movie no doubt.

David Lynch’s surreal and yet one of his most straight forward movies besides “The Elephant Man” and “The Straight Story.” The story begins with a young Jefferey (Kyle Machlachlan)as a young college student back home. One day he finds a severed human ear in an open field. He brings it to the local police detective and eventually gets himself involved in the case. Eventually Jefferey will begin a strange affair with a tortured wife of the man who the mystery ear belongs too. Seems a gang of creepy criminals have kidnapped her husband and son in exchange for perverse violent sex with the wife played by Isabella Rosilini. The psychotic leader of the gang is played by Dennis Hopper in one of his creepiest performances. It was always referred as “The Hardy Boys go to Hell.” Although I will always have a place in my heart for this movie I thought for all the horrors the villains place on their victims to the battered wife, her husband, and even at one point the hero - I believe we were owed a slightly better ending.

John Landis was asked why he believed they criticized his "Into the Night" another movie which mixed genres comedy, and chase-thrillers. He explained that critics hated when people do that. I believe there was some truth to that especially since the movie he was defending was made after a very controversial production of "Twilight Zone The Movie" "Idle Hands" is another perfect example of what Landis's original complaint was critics don't take kindly to genre mixing. Anton (Devon Sawa) just realized he may have been responsible for murders happening in his town. The movie is hilarious with it's mixture of teen comedies, and horror. Soundtrack is one of the best of the 90's.

Based on Thomas Harris's "Red Dragon" this is probably one of the most underated movies of it's time. The story calls retired agent Wil Graham back to the grisly murder scenes of a serial killer. Director Michael Mann adapts the novel almost perfectly. There is a director's cut unfortunately the quality is limited due to the original deleted scenes on film being lost forever. The theatrical cut available in HD which looks amazing.

Released in 1981 and based on a true story about a crooked cop who turns in his partners. All the way through the film he will yell “But I will never turn on my partners ..”But everyone around him knows better. Treat Williams turns in his best performance to date. Another part film history is that this movie was supposed to be directed by Brian De Palma and the man who ended up directing Sidney Lumet was also supposed to direct “Scarface.”
