in the beginning, it was strange and self-conscious. and, yes, at times the empowering story lines were a bit too on the nose, but... do give it a chance.
if you make it past the four or five first uncertainty-oozing episodes, you'll find characters striving to find their own voices and with clearer functions and motives, as well as some very nice subversions of the original wiccan-oriented show (one of my all-time favorites btw).
around ep. 10 it actually became a show i look forward to every week, and i can only hope they'll pick it up for a second season.
6/10, then 7/10, now maybe 7.75/10. it's getting there, slowly but surely.
UPDATE: episode s01e21 was AWESOME! this shown has evolved so much in a single season it's unbelievable. 9.5/10
