In all honesty the route of direction on where they take this game isn’t comfort for many. I for one enjoyed the development of the bond between Joel and Ellie in the previous game. What many complain about is the missing of companionship given with this story. Ironically I believe this game would’ve received a higher review if this was the first “last of us.”
The gameplay reminded why we were so attached to the series but the story left it’s element in what made us so attached in the first place, the bond through tragedy. There was no bond just pain leaving the community in rage. I don’t believe it deserves the low review. The game is beautiful even with a story I disagree with but I will say don’t expect the same heart felt character development like the first one. This story is about loss and just when you think you lost it all more is taken. The message I felt at the end credits, “was it all worth it?”
I think the true reason people are mad is the potential to expand from what they created; instead gave a reality to a story that Shakespeare would say “touché” to.
Many characters deserved more while others you careless for took the mantle in gaining a development we didn’t care for. I’m more left with I expected different rather than I expected more.
