The movie shows possible choices when people are facing to destroyable disasters from humanity perspective rather than indivialistic heroism. Two points hit me so much: 1. Not only main characters can save the world but any other nameless ones in the story; 2.The dad can choose to give it up when he believes his son is dead but can also be a hero to save the planet when he realises the son is still alive- I mean not for all human beings but for his family only. The motivation of his life’s sacrifice is selfish but moved. Not a typical Hollywood style story but such a milestone of Chinese movie industry I’d say. However the story is too much and too less—Too much concepts and details the director wants to tell but too less connections and explanations the movie can show. Therefore certain gaps lead to a lack of self-consistent logic to audience :(
