Let me start by saying this is one of the most HORRENDOUS topics I have ever researched. I was so impressed by the movie's accuracy AT FIRST but then it became more of a downplay of the evil people who were responsible for Sylvia's MURDER! Gertrude and Paula are MONSTERS!!!!! All the ones involved - including the ones who took part in burning Sylvia with cigarettes, the ones who paid 5 cents to look at Sylvia on display like a zoo animal, the ones who heard the noises and screams and chose to not report it, and the ones who showed up to investigate and trusted Gertrude's word. The only people who were innocent in this entire situation were Sylvia and Jenny. Gertrude was portrayed as someone to be pitied because she had a mental illness - NO! Paula was not sympathetic to Sylvia at all as she was portrayed in the movie. I wish movies would stick with facts. Trust me, the facts of these true events would create the most terrifying horror movie Hollywood could ever make.
