Bearing in mind the richness of detail, character development, scope and quality of the books, this adaptation could have been an epic, GoT scale production. As it is it’s just one more humdrum forgettable end-of-the-world schlockfest to add to all the rest. In these days where viewing figures are television's holy grail - a desperate shame - Fox has altered and radically truncated the narrative in order to engage viewers quickly but the cost is high and will likely prove counterproductive. Realistically I suppose it wouldn’t be economically viable to do true justice to the source material but, in an ideal world, with visionary producers and a hefty enough budget this could have been extraordinary.
