The plot was really good and the final plot twist was unexpected (even though the first one was pretty obvious) However the dangerous thing about this book is the relationship between Hawke and Poppy. It shows that when a girl says no it means she’s ‘playing hard to get’. He forces himself onto her, until he sees a reaction from her. He gets into her personal space, dismisses her refusals, all because he thinks she’s playing hard to get. This is perpetuating a toxic ‘no mean yes’ idea that can destroy peoples lives.

I did not think Sarah J Maas could write anything better than what she had already written. But no. House of Earth And Gold takes the phrase ‘emotional rollercoaster’ to a whole new level. The sheer volume of everything that has been packed into one book is unbelievable. And don’t get me started on plot twists. The intricate way in which the plot has been woven in flawless from start to finish. Sarah J Maas has really put done herself here.
