I love James Wan but boy, this movie was... something. It’s nothing similar to Insidious, The Conjuring, or Saw. I went into this movie without watching a trailer and that may have been a mistake. I’m unable to tell if it was intentionally hilarious or not. If you’re into good awful scary movies, this is definitely that. I’m unsure if the extreme unpredictability and confusion you’ll have watching this was good or bad. It was an average movie length but felt like I was there for 3.5 hours. The acting was rough to watch, it seemed like Wan didn’t have the budget he needed for this film, the blood looked like it was a Walmart off-brand, the screams just become more and more silly the longer you stay with the movie, and at one point during a mass-murder scene it stops being horror and becomes an action movie from the mid-90s. I’m a huge horror fan, I love bad and good horror films and I still don’t know if I liked this movie or not so it’s been given 3 stars.
