I read this book almost without a stop. I am not ashamed to say that the last pages brought tears to my eyes even though I am a man. I am Polish with a Jewish background, i.e. my parents were already fully assimilated Poles and I was born a few months before the outbreak of World War II. I and my mother survived on false identities because good people helped. My father was murdered by the Soviets in Katyn. I DO remember the last two years of the Nazi occupation. What Kelly wrote is TRUE! The book shows that there were Poles who heroically risked their own and their families' lives to rescue Jews but there were also many anti-Semites who denounced Jews and scoundrels who took advantage of the situation to rob Jews of their possessions. Unfortunately, the present authorities in Poland often turn a blind eye to acts of anti-Semitism and racism by extreme rightists. This book should be read by everyone. Thank you Kelly!
