Halfway through it becomes clear that the movie is intentionally bad as a middle finger to the studio and to the audience for forcing them to resurrect a finished franchise. Which is, and could be interesting. However it’s still a terrible, poorly executed, entirely cringey movie. The editing is sloppy. The action scene blocking is lazy and uninspired. Reeves’ acting is painfully wooden (which normally we love him for, but here it hurts). It’s bad, but instead of bravely cannonballing off the proverbial cliff in any meaningful way, it lets out a parachute in the shape of a Keanu reeves action figure, shoots holes in it while winking at the camera and mouthing “BULLET TIME”, and seizing out a tiktok dance as it plummets into the ground. It tries to be ironic and brave but just can’t quite let go of the urge to still be cool and expressive and subversive. So it sucks. As long as it was competent, it could’ve been anything. But instead it sucks.
