The true story behind this series is really unbelievable! The story of the Hodel family is full of twists and turns and drama. Listening to the Root of Evil podcast - even with Steve Hodel's shameless exploitation of his family dysfunction & exaggeration of Dr. Hodels Black dahlia "connections" - is way more interesting
Unfortunately, TNT felt they needed to add a washed-up, Korean War veteran (who goes from sloppy drunk to judo master in 2 episodes) who now makes his living, basically, as a TMZ reporter. Pointless.
Like the entirely fictional Jay Singletary, the characters actually based on real individuals flip flop from delicate flowers to brave warriors and back again with no explanation.
This didn't need 6 one-hour long episodes, but it would have made a great 90-120 minute TV movie.
