The film is worth watching, unfortunately the writer of this info hadn't watched the film and should be accurate in who played who,( Jean Paul Belmondo ( a french actor) did not play the German officer(who was played by Gert Frode)

As an ex- engineer involved in mining,quarrying,exploratory drilling I watch with interest in the expensive equipment being used when much cheaper methods for drilling could be employed for primary exploration, having drilled to over 600' with rotary percussive equipment and simple sampling methods.
