I arrived at Mac in Sept 1971. Orientation 1971 at Woodstock Hall was an amazing experience.
I had heard about Orientation 1968 .. Hell it was legendary ! But try as I might, I was unable to locate a viewing until March 22, 2019 ! Although a bit 'rough around the edges" by today's standards, I none the less very much enjoyed the journey back in time. It was fun to try and identify some of the campus landmarks.
There ae a couple of vignettes in the movie that stand out, and I have to comment.
First is the lecture hall scene as the professor ends his class with what appears to be a plea for companionship. Just look him up in the back corner of the coffee shop. By himself of course. You can read a lot into that scene and image of irrelevance. Whoever configured that scene deserves recognition. Congrats and thanks for that.
The second scene I anticipated was based on the reputation of this film. Rumour had it that the plot evolved into some sort of sexual awakening. Not that this would have been far from what actually transpired during a typical Orientation back in the late 60's , early 70's. But I was looking forward to how Lyn Logan was going to present this on film. Remember, all of what I knew about this film was based on hearsay and rumour. This was upposed to be fairly risque for the time period. And I was not really disappointed by the production. Just a few grins at the reality of how some topics can be dealt with 'discretely' and leaving the actual image to your imagination. Engaging your audience used to be like that. Well done, but I was surprised.
It took me a long time to see Orientation 1968, and while I was surprised, I wasn't disappointed.
Cheers and thanks
