I enjoyed this movie primarily because of Lupita Nyong'o's outstanding performance. However, several plot points seemed to be borrowed from "The Day of the Triffids," raising the question: if the monsters could be eradicated by seawater and it was known they feared seawater, why didn't they use that instead of bombs?
Moreover, the film depicts a desperate moment without showing people praying, which feels like another example of Hollywood's animosity towards such scenes. There's a saying, "There are no atheists in foxholes," which seems relevant here.
I rated the movie three stars. I noted only 15 Hispanic names in the thousands-long list of technical and creative credits, which is disappointing. This continues Hollywood's pattern of taking stories from other sources without proper attribution, using illogical dramatic points, and relentlessly excluding Hispanics despite statistics showing we are significant ticket buyers. Seriously, enough is enough. Lupita should understand this issue.
