Years ago Dr Who had good story lines, good aliens and good monsters. Even in modern times there were memorable episodes like Blink, Waters of Mars, Family of Blood and Dalek that were incredibly clever, emotive and dramatic. Occasionally stories get too convoluted and vague as when the Silence was ripping thru the fabric of time and space or this recent series that had the flux and everything else all fighting at once, even Time itself. It gets too silly. As much as we all enjoyed seeing weeping Angels, humorous Sontarans, Daleks and Cybermen, the enemies were all vying for too little space and time on screen. It was TOO frantic. It lacked the simple moral dillemas like Genesis of the Daleks or the scares of The Yalons of Weng Chang of the Tom Baker era. The last series was preposterous in dealing with the anti matter Flux compared with The Three Doctors dealing with the rogue Time Lord Omega in John Pertwees time. Likewise the doctor splitting into three was a mirror of that classic storyline. Therefore its a great show when it hits the heights but if a writer tries to be too clever... or too woke... it loses its original impact as a really good sci fi show.
