This film will leave Fowl fans extremely disappointed. It was extremely short with lack of detail. The only good thing about it was that it was over quickly. I’ve heard that the producers expect it to be “the next Harry Potter.” There’s not a chance. The book by Eoin Colfer was an absolute masterpiece, while the movie was complete garbage. I know I’m being a bit harsh, but I’m speaking the truth. If you’d like to hear me complain more, feel free to continue reading.
First of all, many important details were eliminated, to the point where it made no sense. If I hadn’t read the book I wouldn’t have understood anything at all. They took out everything that made me laugh, smile, cry, or show any emotion at all. The only thing I felt while watching it was anger because of all of the scenes they took out. They even took out the lollipop scene! (I apologize if you don’t understand.) The only similarities to the book were a few important scenes, but they made no sense without the details. They also changed the entire plot, making it terrible.
Second of all, the characters are all completely different from the book. For example, in the movie, Artemis isn’t even a criminal. He’s just a stupid little kid. Butler is extremely weak and dumb in the movie. Juliet was hardly mentioned and she’s also Butler’s niece in the movie instead of his sister. I thought this was a highly unnecessary change. Root was a female in the movie, but a male in the book. I personally hated the change. Foaly in the book was an amazing character. I loved him. In the movie however, it’s like, Foaly? Who’s Foaly?? Mulch would have never willingly helped Artemis. Holly I’m the book is extremely persistent and she would never give in to Artemis. Holly and Artemis were supposed to despise each other, rather than be besties. Where the heck was Angeline Fowl, and why was Artemis Senior brought into the picture?
Finally, the acting in general was terrible. The movie was extremely unrealistic and most of the actors were terrible choices. No offense to them, but I personally think that they could have chosen better.
In conclusion, the entire movie was Disney-fied and it turned an amazing story into something terrible. I apologize for a couple things. I know this was long and thank you if you read my complaints for so long. Another thing is that I know this was strongly worded and some might have different opinions to me, but this is just what I thought. I hope you enjoy Artemis Fowl better than I did. I would recommend the book but not the movie.
