With director Sam Raimi back to make superhero movies, I can see why a lot of fans were excited for this one, mainly because he made the original Spiderman trilogy which a lot of people loved, and because it was going to be the MCU's first "horror" film.
So first off, the movie, in general, was pretty good, but it was the middle where it kinda went downhill, but not in a bad way. The entire movie was very fast-paced, and by the end, the movie just felt like it had ended way earlier than a typical MCU film. Secondly, if you have seen Raimi's past films, you can easily see his touch which really makes it feel Like a Raimi film. While I wouldn't call it "horror", some elements were there that kinda made up for it. Not to mention there are some of the most gruesome deaths seen in any Marvel movie before. The cameos do make an appearance but they barely made an effect on the plot and were basically there for fan service, which is a thing the MCU has been doing quite a bit lately, and it was cool seeing Charles Xavier come back for probably the last time as Professor X. But putting the flaws aside, the CGI and cinematography are the best I have seen in any MCU film, (classic Raimi style), and the cast has yet again pulled off an amazing stunt. Elizabeth Olsen shines as the Scarlet Witch and you can never say anything bad with Benedict Cumberbatch's acting as Dr. Strange, which adds a lot more flair to the character. Benedict Wong and Xocthil Gomez put up an amazing performance as well.
A lot of people criticize phase 4 for being "not as good as Marvel was in the past", but I disagree. Marvel had just been building up all the hype throughout the years, all for it to be finally perfectly included in infinity war and endgame. While that is the end of the infinity saga, it isn't the end of Marvel or the MCU. With the addition of Disney+, they have new opportunities to explore different genres and do things they just couldn't do with the past MCU films and start a new beginning with new characters. While I do agree some of the newer films weren't "excellent", they are not as bad as people say. After the astounding success of Spider-Man no way home, it was easy to get excited about the next movie, and while the majority of Marvel fans liked it, some critics and fans were not as happy, especially since Dr. Strange technically becomes a side character and the whole plot revolves around America Chavez discovering her powers and Scarlet witch trying to find her non-existent kids (I still don't understand why she didn't go after vision too...)
Overall, I give this movie an 8/10. If you haven't seen it I do recommend you watch Wandavision and Spiderman No Way Home first, and don't listen to the hate. Have a great day and a great movie experience!
