It really had potential but it is marred by dodgy (and often unnecessary) CGI and a lighthearted take on serious matters without actually injecting humour. My thoughts are not reflections on the talent in any way because the acting is great; from what I've seen so far. The mistakes seem to lie in the writing and post-production stages. It could have been great, sadly it's merely watchable.

Give it a watch if you have nothing else to do. If you don't know the book or the original movie then you may enjoy it more but it's barely a shadow of the original. It doesn't make as much sense in an American setting and it definitely feels like it has been dumbed down. I don't know if I'd watch it a second time whereas the original movie can be watched every time it is on without feeling stale. It just didn't work for me, too sterilised, too cutesy and too overproduced.
