much more nuanced than i expected as the show goes on, and better than the book. hoping it keeps going.

unbelievably bad for, like, the first 20 minutes. then, very good.

truly terrible. the entitlement of the girl's parents is just insane. they were truly, deeply insufferable characters, and there's so much focus on them i just couldn't push through. the extra star is because i'd love to see more actually well done cross-country collaborations on shows like this in the future. just, like, make them good.

clunky & soapy acting and writing for the two main guys. too hard to get past it. i love a dystopian political sci-fi, but there are much better ones less hammily done. kid actors were good, and the women were good. also too many shots of a minor they wanted to show as victimized but was often objectified instead in the camera shots & costuming. poor, poor taste.

the misogyny presented in it is real and accurate, but damn if it isn't hard to watch 11 years later. deserves 5 stars for accuracy but 3 for pleasantness.

season 1 was fun, weird, and very worth the watch. season 2 was much more meh, but it passed the time.

wish they'd make more. legitimately enjoyable.
