I remember when the first book came out, I was a kid and it was my favorite book in the world. Ever since then my dad bought me each book as soon as it was placed on bookstore shelves. As a kid who grew up reading the whole series and loving it, this Netflix series does it justice. The show follows the books VERY closely, even giving each book a two-part episode so as not to miss important events or facts. The tv show captures how ALL the characters develop and even adds clarity to the answer of a mystery already revealed in the books.
For those who've never read the books but want to see the series, go ahead, watch the series. Be aware each episode has no happy endings, things aren't resolved, and the only consolation to the misery you will see is the wonderfully dry and sometimes dark humor that accompanies the story of the Baudelaire orphans. As an adult, I can say this show holds up to audiences of all ages, not just children. And if you like the show, you might want the books too. Enjoy.
