Some glaring historical issues. Opening scene shows cows parsley growing with rapseed plants. Rapseed was not prevalent in 1917. French farm was on a steep hill but it was very muddy. A farm would have had a hardened courtyard for the cattle yard. The story follows the basic story of the film Gallipoli. Messages being sent by runners although they had radio and aeroplanes that were flying over Norman’s land which could have dropped a message to the 2nd Devonshires with telephone lines cut.
