Just don't. So disappointed in Maggie Gyllenhaal, who I love. The script is achingly try hard naturalism, so "fresh" 20 years ago. Like Sophie Coppola's "Marie Antoinette". Looks beautiful but utterly tedious due to bad story telling.
An extravagently indulgent two hours long, it contains twenty minutes of dramatic dialogue which progresses the story. The rest is studied close-ups and the boring minutiae of everyday conversation 🙄
There is utterly no point to this story (spoiler alert for the ending). If I'd realised it is adapted from an Elena Ferrante novel I wouldn't have bothered. She is a serial offender of writing books which are a fast cure for insomnia.
