This movie, like the two previous ones, is just empty calories. The characters are cardboard cutouts, they go through bucket lists of things they're supposed to say and things they're supposed to do, but where the original Star Wars managed to create an authentic mythology, these new ones are like middle-school re-enactment of that myth (with unlimited budget, heh). Cute at times, but in every way a shallow imitation. The plot makes little sense and is just twisted every which way to set up scenes that can be milked for action or cheap drama.
The only thing that preserves the original soul of Star Wars is the music, it sort of preserves the hope for the audience that underneath the whole debacle, the real thing still exists. And the main actors have some presence, despite material that gives them no room to really show what they've got.
