*SPOLERS*
I have never written a review before, but I'll be honest, I was expecting better out of Halo: Infinite.
To start off with all of the bad things... 1. I feel that there have been more questions presented rather than answered. It feels as though the developers/writers really didn't think too much into what could've been a terrific game. They did take into account some of the information from the books/lore, which I though was neat, such as Leonidas and the station from Forbeck's books or even Sydney being destroyed. However, they failed to address the common questions - how was Cortana truly defeated? Who are the Endless? Where is everyone else?
2. Even though the grappling hook and some of the other gadgets were good ideas, I felt as if they did a quick "copy n' paste" deal with it from DOOM: Eternal. It also seemed that the character known as "The Harbinger" was from DOOM, too. Highly suspicious, especially with the backlash and need to quickly adjust their graphics/story-line from last year's rage from the community.
3. What happened to Anders from Halo Wars 2? I am aware that the Spirit of Fire was stuck, but Anders hopped through that portal and encountered a Guardian, so... it would have been nice to have that addressed or hinted, in the very least.
4. Is Locke dead? Buck is with old Alpha-9, but what about Holly, Vale, and Locke? With the types of missions and black-ops that they all did together and in their own lives, I have a hard time believing that two of the Spartan Killers would have eliminated them so easily, let alone strip Locke of his helmet and other equipment. Maybe The Rubicon Protocol could shed some light on these questions, but I doubt that...
Here are the good things:
1. I love Halo. I've been invested since I was a kid and have read all of the books and comics growing up. I am a nerd, and am still expanding my knowledge about it because it truly is a fantastic story. I am hopeful that there is a connection with the Endless and the Precursors, but I doubt that based on descriptions and power from Bear's trilogy.
2. I gave this a 3 to 3.5 out of 5 stars because it's still Halo. Chief is back on the main screen being the protagonist, and the antagonist were pretty solid. Escharum was a bit obnoxious and overzealous, but I enjoyed parts of him that were antagonistic and his will was powerful. 'Rdomnia was a fantastic character, and I wish that we saw more of him or at least his battles with the Spartan IV's that he (sadly) murdered. The brothers Hyperious and Tovarus could have had more screen time and background, but proved to be formidable enemies nonetheless.
3. The map was nice, and the graphics/secrets were an added bonus I wasn't expecting. I also like how they did bring the emotion from Cortana, The Weapon (Cortana 2.0 now?), Chief, and the dead Spartans found. The extra info about the bosses were INCREDIBLE and can add more lore content that I love reading.
Overall, 343 better pull something better out of their rear-end because I feel like I'm in the middle of a bridge with them. Don't get me wrong, I love Halo, but I'm also at the point where the story is near a close and I'd like to see it end. I'd love to see a culmination of everything and everyone come together, answering more questions, and for there to be a solid answer on who will hold the Mantle. I may seem like I'm everywhere on this review, but this is just my insight. I hope this helps and remember, "Spartans never die. They're just missing in action."
