Never been a huge fan of James Wan or DCEU (except Chris Nolan's Dark Knight - that was a masterpiece). But some critics may have been too cruel for Aquaman. In my opinion not all movies should have twisted plot or build on complex stories. Some movies are just simply "A Walk in The Park" or enjoying the ride. Bottom line is I think Aquaman is good...At least it's a good start for DCEU after a huge disappointment from Batman vs Superman and Justice League...
