I've only watched the first episode so far and I enjoyed it. I loved the cast, the pace, the music, and the storyline The acting was top notch in my opinion. I would have given the show 4 and a half stars if that were an option.
However, what's up with the set design and wardrobe all being matching colors? I suspect the idea was to capture the feel of the early 60s. To me the turquoise/pinkish/ rust/brownish hues throughout are both distracting and unrealistic. In many if not most scenes the characters are wearing the aforementioned colors. When have you ever seen a clawfoot tub that is turquoise inside and rust/ brown outside, or a turquoise movie projector? After a while with every scene change I found myself unconsciously trying to pick out the matching colors in each character's wardrobe (right down eyeglasses and suspenders), walls, furniture, floors, countertops, draperies, countertops, cabinets, etc. as though it were a game. The point is that the sets and wardrobe colors made me feel as though I were watching a televised play rather than a spy thriller. I'd rather have seen the show filmed in black and white or with people wearing a more realistic wardrobe.
Set design and color schemes aside, all of the really important elements of a quality, fun-to- watch show are there and I, for one, look forward to how the rest of the season will develop - even if turquoise and friends are not my favorite colors.
