One of my favorite movies growing up in the 60s and 70s. Derek Flint was America's answer to the James Bond craze of the 1960s. Flint was portrayed to be superior to Bond when film came out in 1966. More of a rich, well rounded playboy with a high intellect and specialized Martial Arts training. He was a researcher, author, pilot, scientist and lady's man. He only did occasional jobs for the American government, rather than being employed as a government spy since he was independently wealthy - with a stable of female apprentices that were in his employ.
If someone were to ask me who my idol was, my answer would be Derek Flint!
Jerry Goldsmith does a fantastic job on both Flint movie scores and I never tire of hearing his work.
To bad there were only two films made with James Coburn as Flint.
The four Matt Helm secret agent movies with Dean Martin came out around the same time but just don't have the memorable scoring that the Flint movies do.
I listen to both In Like Flint and Our Man Flint at least once a week as background music.
