The story started out to be about three different people - Fateh, Tejo, and Jasmine - who have different personalities and dreams to conquer. Fateh is shown as an emotional, morally conflicted person whose only dream is to get Jasmine. Jasmine is shown as an impulsive, egoistic, self-centred, narcissistic person who dreams of going to Canada. Tejo is an independent, book smart, emotionally vulnerable person whose dream is unclear (it could be her family or her studies) and is a little hard for the audience to read. The narrative revolves around these main characters' journeys to their dreams or away from their them in pursuit of life. One of the problems with the narrative is that it swings a lot and isn't a clear portrayal of the character's wants and actions. At times, a character would do something completely unpredictable just to serve whatever twist the writer wants to put in instead of the other way round. A good story serves the character and mediocre one is where the characters serve the story. What the writers are good at doing is playing with the audience's emotions just as any cliched Indian soap opera would. From just being about a struggle for their dreams, it is now also about love, sex, and betrayal. In this, the characters and overarching track of the narrative (whatever that may be) gets muddled.
One of the only saving grace is perhaps the audience intrigue with the lead character, Tejo. Her ultimately becoming stronger through the mistakes she makes and troubles she faces may be what is keeping some going. For the romantic ones, the writers have done a good job of creating two social media teams for Fateh-Tejo versus Fateh-Jasmine romance. Whichever track is served is the writer's fancy, but many elements do not add up consistently to date.
Disclaimer: I started watching this show around the time when Fateh and Tejo got married. I did spend some time before this trying to catch up and watch the episodes in the beginning and did so up until the start of their husband-finding event. And now I have just been reading written updates because of time constraints and the story isn't compelling enough any more for me to carve out my time to do weekend catching-up.
