In reviews, most of which conveyed a somewhat critical conclusion, I watched Fantasy Island with limited expectation based upon the generally 'shallow' opinion of the movie citings it as a weak revival of the originally themed, 1 hour show from the 1970's. Despite several weak reviews, I, as an avid movie goer and not an acclaimed critic found myself, surprisingly impressed by Fantasy Island, including the end result of the storyline. In generalization, this portrayal/revival of the original series is of a sort it's own with new twists and unexpected results, very unlike the original series with a family oriented conclusion. It does pay honor and respect to the original, however takes an entirely new approach to the storyline as it expands from the original welcoming of the quests to Fantasy Island to the next evolution of storyline, leading to a deeper, thoughtfully executed storyline which is rightfully respectable and admirable with a well earned take away and satisfaction. I argue this movie's value, in favor of desirable despite it's critical reviews and highly recommended it's viewing in order to provide it a sincere opportunity to prove itself as it did in my experience. This is my first and perhaps only effort in offering a movie review but I do so in earnest and sincerity. This motion picture is worthwhile in my sincere opinion and I would gladly watch it again and invite first time viewers.
