I went into this really wanting to love this film. I’m a fan of both Butler and Baccarin. Both the trailer and subject matter really peaked my interest. The film started well enough. But it didn’t take long before a series of clichés, perplexing coincidences and irrational incidents hijacked all hope of saving the earth, let alone this film. It disappointed me so viscerally that every time some nonsensical, unexplained plot twist took place, I struggled not to walk away from the film in frustration. And as much as the film set out to build a foundation for the audience to empathize with the lead characters’ domestic issues they were trying to overcome, there just wasn’t enough meat on those bones to care anymore than you might care about your third cousin that you get to see every third year at Thanksgiving. Although that didn’t so much hurt the film as perhaps keep it from failing altogether. I am really, really upset to report that the one thing this movie got right is that it was indeed a cataclysmic and unmitigated disaster.
