I am not a die-hard FNAF fan. The most I knew about it going in was that there's a security guard in an abandoned diner from the eighties, trying not to get mauled by robots. So this was not my favorite movie.
The first hour was pretty good. It had a few flaws, like dragging out some scenes way too long, but it was good. Beginning gets a solid 4 stars from me.
The last half was a bit convoluted, disappointing, and filled with plot holes. The last hour also likes to drag out scenes, though not quite as much. The characters jump to conclusions way too quickly. And, of course, they're right. 2 stars.
But put it all together. It has several flaws, but it's still a decent popcorn movie. I watched it with a friend, who was a big FNAF fan. He definitely made me realize it was made for the fans. He also claimed he could explain everything. And while he did, he really shouldn't need to. So definitely made for the fans. Unfortunately, they must have forgotten about the plot and the horror in the mix of Easter Eggs.
They forgot about the horror? Yeah, this movie wasn't scary at all. The scariest parts either dragged out way too long for no reason, or were ruined by a cheap jump scare. This could be my fault for not getting scared easily, but I walked away thinking, "That was supposed to be a horror movie?" It felt more like a gory drama.
Overall? A fun movie. If you're a fan, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. If you're not, well, don't get your hopes up. It's just okay, not for me. Solid 3/5.
Kind of agree with the critics on this one.
