An honest portrayal of the mlm experience without perpetuating the negative stereotypes, ‘Young Royals’ exceeded all expectations. Following a teenage Swedish prince sent to a prestigious boarding school, it is worlds apart from ‘Elite’ and ‘Gossip Girl’ which I’ve seen it compared to, and I mean that in the most positive, affirming way. As much as the plot sounds like something out of a fairy tale, ‘Young Royals’ is grounded in reality. The many nuances sets it apart from its contemporaries. The realistic interactions between characters in person and on social media resemble many we might possibly have had through the course of our own lives. Perfectly cast, both, the diverse, age-appropriate actors’ appearances and the acting felt natural. I didn’t think to question it for a second. The chemistry between the leads is palpable.
Most shows drag to a certain degree. In this case, six episodes felt limiting in the sense that the somewhat predictable tragedy struck too quickly, however, it drove the plot with much potential for a second season.
