I wholeheartedly wish I could support the hard work from this mostly all Asian cast and crew. However, the writing falls soooo short of proper research that supplies it with any authetnticity. Frankly, it's awful. A young girl spends a few years at a Shoalin temple... and comes back with nothing more than having learned some phsyical martial arts? Where is the change? What lessons could she have learned to help her bond, relate, and appreciate her Chinese family? Kung Fu, as Bruce Lee reiterated, is a philosophy. Yet the only wisdom ever shared was a bit of furtune cookie platitude in the second episode. Surely any time spent learning this art would yield a life-changing experience - perfect to backdrop against current times. It's a wonderful conceit, yet sadly it is written with such whitewashed banality that the series fall so short of exploring a culture that has gained recent prominence. I'm rather embarassed it.
