Although Grave Encounters employs the hand held style of cinematography, which I detest, I'm very glad I overcame my bias to see it. If like me you shy away from hand held camera style productions you may be hesitant to see Grave Encounters but the story and professional way it's filmed carries the movie exceptionally. The acting, script, editing and overall production make this a scintillating yet underrated horror gem. The atmosphere builds progressively and eludes to a very unsettling night for our main characters which we gradually warm to. The first half of Grave Encounters takes us on a ride from light disbelief into a claustrophobic world of on the edge of your seat terror. But in no way do I mean to suggest the first half lets the movie down, it is an excellent foreshadowing of what's to come with some light humour injected with the intention of lowering our guard. The second half of Grave Encounters is a payoff which will leave horror fans immensely satisfied. Bear in mind Grave Encounters 2, the sequel, I reserve judgement on as I feel it falls way short of the its predecessor. But Grave Encounters is a modern must see I recommend highly within the horror genre which more often than not leaves me vastly disappointed.
