The realism is top-notch which unfortunately is the discipline locking down a repetitive style of storytelling. I’ve grown weary of historical tellings forcing the viewer to sit through extended scenes depicting characters endlessly suffering, like I’m somehow meant to feel irresponsible if I’m disinclined to glom on to it. Band of brothers showed plenty of the worst parts of war, but as a brief agonizing accent needed to tell the story. Masters of the Air, on the other hand, has very little story to tell.
