Especially given that Villenuve intends this story to be told as a trilogy--or more.

A complex story with political intrigues distilled down to its essence so previous exposure to the source material is not required.
Perfect casting with performances that are executed to the letter with exactly what is needed in each scene. Chalamat was exceptional since he's shouldering the majority of the load.
