Definitely another page turner. We follow the newly appointed water engineer, the Aquarius on his quest to find out why the Aqueduct has stopped transporting water two days before the eruption. He is continuously harassed by thugs in the employ of a powerful and rich ex-slave. Pompeii may be corrupt down to the core but Mount Vesuvius doesn’t yield to anyone, not even to Pliny the Elder. Here, of course, we know what will happen but we are in continuous suspense as to when it will happen and a race against time. This is a good read.
