It is more than a coincidence that Rocky would be chosen as the name. In Greek, Petros means a small stone. Apollo is short for Apollyon, the destroyer, a god with a sculptured body. A creed is what you believe. In 1976, America needed a hero, someone we could trust. 44 years later, we still need a hero we can trust to "go the distance." Jesus told Peter upon this "rock," I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. Rocky went through hell, but hell did not prevail! Jesus went through hell. He turned the other cheek, he prayed for his enemies, and he went the second mile, carrying a cross and never uttered an unkind word. Satan, the "lawless one" had no rules he had to obey and with all the evil he unleashed upon Jesus, he could not get Him to sin. All of Rocky's opponents could not get him to quit. Both of them went the distance and so can we if we will love one another.
