The viewers who imagined the documentary would be any less enigmatic than the Gorillaz characters themselves should consider the naivety of hoping the most secretive and curated band of all time would suddenly bestow on you the artistic genius Damon and Jamie combine to create. I expected a live-like experience, and dressed like I was going to a Gorillaz concert. I was at the Red Rocks show of the Humanz tour and wasn't even disappointed to see the rainy windy footage didn't make the final cut. The genius that goes behind the development of what was supposed to be the perfect band, to me created what was just that, and to have had the unique opportunity to see so much behind the scenes love pairs really well with what was so enticing about Gorillaz in the first place, and that was the profound secrecy, playing behind screens on stage, projecting images of Jamie's artwork of the bandmates, ensuring to never break the illusion of the cartoon. It'll always be one of my favorite films, and I'm grateful for it. Now to just figure out how to be one of those lucky collaborators.
