This is a "heartbreaking" story of a woman, (played beautifully by Susan Hayward) who marries a man out of grief for the loss of the real love of her life (played by the charming Dana Andrews). It begins with her best friend visiting her. She is angry, lashing out at her husband and drinking heavily. She is raising a daughter who she had after her lover was killed. She takes an old evening dress out of the closet and starts to reminisce about wearing the dress and meeting "Walt" back in college. This begins their passionate affair. Susan Hayward plays this part with such heart, she knows what it means to love someone so, that the loss of him breaks her spirit completely. I have always been a fan of old movies and "My Foolish Heart" brought me to tears. There is nothing else that can teach life lessons like love and loss~~

It is my go-to movie, and though I am much older than the character of Rita, I can completely identify with an "older" woman who heads back to University later in life, and finds herself along the way. It is funny, charming and honest.
