The best book I've read in ages! Wonderful, beautiful prose. Story line was interesting, wonderful setting and characters, history with that special twist of mystery. Understand this is Christopher Scotton's first book, I'll be on the look out for the next one and hopefully many more. Mr. Scotton, you filled my head with the grandeur of the mountains, valleys and rivers. You gave me hours of pure delight in the English language, sometimes taking my breath away. Thank you.

I gave it a thumbs down only because the ending left me puzzled. I enjoyed the book: characters, location, story line but the last quarter did not add to the story and the diary portion at the very end simply did not make sense to me. Simply: How did that character write about her death if she was dead? I thought about going back to try and figure it out, find what I had missed but, again, the last quarter was too drawn out and "why bother?"

Incredible! Especially for an 8 yr old when I first saw it. A brand new theatre opened in San Jose, CA and this was one of the first movies shown there. In a era when children were "treated" to ghost stories by the fire in the evening when the family gathered I was still unprepared for the drama and terror. LOVED IT and, yes silly, but still cherish and giggle with the memory of being scared silly.
