I just read Jane Austen’s “Emma” and saw a local play adaptation & wanted to see how the movie compared. ( I had also heard that it was totally fun.) It surprisingly did, from the new girl coming to town, to the set up with Elton (“Mr. Elton” in the book) & even details like Cher’s widowed father. Stuff was added, like the two teachers – and Wallace Shawn is so funny – and also one of the characters being gay, which well, didn’t make it into Jane Austen‘s book. I found it delightful, even almost 25 years after it was filmed. “Emma” the book holds up pretty well too. Both are worth the time!
