Cyber six is one of those rare, wonderful series that leaves so many questions unanswered and yet allows you to read between the lines and fill in the blanks. The mystery is one of it's greatest charms.
Adapted from a graphic novel with much more adult themes, the animated series has been edited for a younger audience, making it even more head scratching at times.
There are hints that Cyber six was originally a young boy who was transformed into a superhuman woman. Meanwhile, Cyber six disguises herself as a male teacher (who develops romantic feelings for a male co-worker, allowing an unusual gender bending aspect into a show consumable by children.
The companion to Cyber six (Data seven) was a childhood friend of hers become a black panther. The series is very much about personal identity and finding your place in society.
Cyber six is the ultimate heroine who protects her adopted city of Meridiana even as her own genetically engineered body threatens to deteriorate.
Set in a fictional city of Meridiana, it has a European flare that you don't often see in an anime because of its source material. It's every bit as eye catching as the fictional cities of Metropolis or Gotham.
The series has only one season with an open end which makes you want more. This seems to only add to its charm.
