Hate to leave a review like this because it seems like they made a genuine attempt at making this movie, but it was not good. I like alien/sci-fi movies, but this was just so cheesy on all fronts. The worst offender of this movie is the script and the characters. Almost wanted to turn off the movie because of how ridiculous it all was.
The lead male was very unlikeable especially so in the beginning of the movie. He was a jerk in every scene, and it wasn't like a believable type of jerk that you could see somehow working out in real life, this guy and his acting was ridiculous. The lead female was the best part of this movie, but she couldn't save this movie from that script. The love interest angle in this movie is not good, so don't think you have at least that to fall back onto as you struggle through this movie.
All of the scary/thrilling parts were very cheesy. They introduced an interesting idea explaining who/what the aliens are doing but quickly ruined it with a super dumb single-sentence of an explanation that made no sense at all. To top it all off, they end the movie with the most cliche thing ever: a still frame for the definition of "encounter", a word that I'm not even sure they used once in this movie (and I must say the font and color choices used for this dictionary entry was really poorly picked out). That definition ending just sealed the deal for me.
2 stars because I feel like it was a genuine attempt at making an alien movie, and because I like the lead female as well as because I liked Don Stark's character or at least most of his character in this movie (Don Stark being the funny neighbor dad from that 70s show).
But honestly, I think this is a hard pass unless you're dying to see every single alien/ufo movie there is. Don't let the trailer fool you like it fooled me.
