Excellent. Has great variety and whether you’re a beginner or a balding and exhausted but experienced curry chef like myself, you’ll find something suitable to cook. What it doesn’t do, and sadly most curry recipe don’t either, is tell you to make a large ground spice mix which can form the base of so many different curries. All you do is tweak it here and there by adding more chilli or coriander or turmeric etc. to suit whatever curry you’re making on the day. It saves heaps of time. I even give a small sealed container of my spice mix to friends. I advise them to use a tablespoon or two even if they’re using a commercial pre-made curry powder or jar or curry sauce. It sharpens up the taste enormously and lifts these bland commercial ones to an acceptable level.

After Life

I’m a huge Gervais fan. I have always admired his courage to use controversial topics and approaches to find humour in the human condition. However, I found Armageddon to be, not so much shocking, but more a little predictable and, dare I say it, dull. Shocking material can be very funny if used sparingly and part of a larger drive to some kind of philosophical revelation. Armageddon starts dark and remains dark and apart from the occasional brilliant observation (“WE invented the N-word!”) it never takes off. When I try and judge a performance of an established star I ask myself a question. If this performer was unheard of and performing this material, would I find it funny? The answer to my long time favourite Ricky Gervais’ Armageddon is a rather sad “No.”

Incredibly good cop series. Undoubtedly, the best I have ever seen in my 65 years. The acting by all cast members is superlative and performed easily without strain, much helped by an equally superb script. All four series are brilliant, although the final one, perhaps assisted by it's tragic end, has the edge over the first three. I will miss the character Nicola Walker plays so perfectly, and like Sunny himself, I too found myself loving her.
