Possibly one of the worst Star Wars films yet.
Opening 15 minutes was about the only part worth watching: featuring some pleasing space battles, but this was followed by 45 minutes of meaningless scenes on the remote planet with Luke and Rei, filled with wooden dialog and meaningless scenes which seemed only to establish that Kylo Ren was once Luke's pupil...both characters being fundamentally unlikable at this stage; Kylo Ren being too much of a teenage wuss to be in any way intimidating and Luke for being comically inept as a teacher. Bizarrely the film even references how UN-terrifying Kylo is whereupon he felt that smashing his mask would make him more scary, but actually just made him seem more like a child throwing a tantrum
By the time this painful slog was over, I genuinely wanted the First Order to wipe out what remained of the rebels & Jedi. They kill off most of the good characters with little explanation, some without even explaining who they were, replacing them with lazy stereotypes that makes me wish we could have Jarjar Binx back.
In a similar vein to Empire Strikes Back, the film goes nowhere, with nothing being achieved beyond simply a handf of rebels surviving to fight another day and presumably an attempt to set the scene for the final movie.
