10/10
(Spoilers ahead) :)
Watching the Mario movie as a fan was truly an ethereal experience. All throughout the movie I was smiling and squealing at all the little details and references.
From the Pauline's cameo in the news to Yoshi's egg, this movie was the most pleasant experience ever.
It felt like they took at the Mario games and what made them so great and crafted it into a cinematic piece of art.
Every character in this movie was very well developed and had personality.
Mario was great, he had personality and motive and felt like a very good protagonist.
Peach was very surprising too, as she was given a lot more personality than in the games and truly felt a like a great monarch. Her love for the mushroom kingdom was taken and multiplied by 10x.
Luigi was a total highlight from the movie and I truly believe he deserved more screentime.
Toad was totally adorable!
And Bowser managed to be a great antagonist and very funny.
The whole voice cast did a great job and honestly, from Chris Pratt as Mario (who did absolutely amazing) to Jack Black's Bowser, every character had a voice that fit and felt familiar yet new and refreshing.
The animation in this movie is STUNNING, and the story, although simple, is catching and immersive.
The Super Mario Bros movie is, without a doubt, the best movie ilumination has released in the last 10 years or so and it leaves the bar very high for upcoming sequels and game movie adaptations.
This movie managed to blend and use both "real" world and "fantasy" world elements better than other videogame movies (The Sonic movies). If Sonic 3 wants to do well, it better step up its game, because the Mario movie did an absolutely astonishing job.
The Mario Movie is truly a love letter to all Mario fans.
