One of the defining albums of the 1980's. moreso than Thriller, Purple Rain, The Queen is Dead or anything from the hopeless dopey mope Bruce Springsteen. LAV lifted Madonna from a scrappy and promising novice to a superstar on the strength of one after another headspinning pop sugar rush. Unbelievably, she managed to top this record twice more in her phenomenal career. But that's another story for another time.
