Incredible film - sincere performances, restrained and realistic direction, utterly harrowing yet entirely truthful. Fantastic, I come back to this film every few years, the cast and crew do such a good job of bringing to life the awful nature of the Magdalene Laundries.

The film had one or two thrills, but far too much of the film was unintelligible and dull, concentrating on pointless characters and being driven by a plot with no engine. I didn't know who half of the people in the film were, and the central romance between Newt and Tina was risible. Not good enough.
