Everybody has their opinions, but I am a bit disappointed in the negative reviews that I have been reading online.
I believe 70% I have read were negative & some were written by gay journalist. ie Esquire, Wall Street Journal. Perhaps they want to just talk about the negative & not the positives of the show. Some said it’s all about him making money. Another article said that during the time when Colton came out to his coach nothing was resolved. That journalist wanted Colton to tell the coach to simply stop using negative words around the players. The journalist wanted a confrontation. If the journalist knew better, after people start watching this show, word will get out & the coach will be eventually learn his lesson. It was all, of course, probably edited & scripted all for show, but I think Colton handled it well.
I have been watching The Bachelor & The Bachelorette, Bachelor in Paradise for years & have been enjoying it. It is, of course, for entertainment. I know ‘reality shows can be real, but also fake. Everything is mostly scripted & some it is all for show to create ratings. It is all jumbled to create drama so that people will continue to watch. People on there are looking for love ultimately, but also it is an opportunity for people to make money too. Even the journalist who writes those articles need $ too. Would they write an easy positive review or something that contributes controversy? Colton’s occupation is in entertainment once he signed on to The Bachelorette/Bachelor franchise. Everybody wants to make money to eventually retire. You should not blame him to make some $ while trying to help others to come out.
I also wanted to address the scandal about Cassie. Granted he took medication that probably made him ‘crazy’ to act the way he did. He apologized a lot during the show & other interviews for his actions. I only hope one day Cassie eventually talk to him & forgives him. I think she will. I hope they eventually forgive each other & become good friends. We all have done crazy things in our lives whether it be young or old. We just have to ask for forgiveness & learn from it & do not do it ever again. I actually knew a few gays who lived the straight life & were so mean, a bully and anti-gay. They did some horrible things. Eventually when they got older & came out as gay, they realized their mistakes & to me became a good, moral person.
I remember Colton on BIP laying on the couch & was going to confess something. I jokingly told friends he was going to come out. Colton actually reminded me of a friend..same look & same mannerism. I kept telling people he will eventually come out…& surprising he did.
If Colton simply came out and not tell his side of the story, do you think other kids or adults would continue to still be closeted? If there was no show like this, do you think there will be more suicidal thoughts among closeted kids?Would you think some random non known person who made the same show…would anybody watch it? Coming out to parents & friends can difficult & for each person it happens at different age, time. It all depends on if the person feels comfortable within to come out. I myself came out at a late age after completing college. There’s a lot family who share Netflix & am sure some will watch this show in private, in the closet, & may find this show as an encouragement to stay positive, have less suicidal thoughts. They may find comfort in watching this. To me I came out after watching Danny in MTV Real World long ago. The more shows like this, the more people may feel they are not alone.
